What is PAT Testing?
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT Testing) is an In-Service Inspection and Testing of portable appliances including cables and leads. It is a physical examination and a series of tests carried out on portable appliances. It is to assess the operational safety of the appliance and the safety of those operating the equipment.
Tests are conducted on-site using a microprocessor controlled test instrument and the results downloaded to a computer and stored, after which a detailed report is issued to the customer.
By PAT Testing all portable equipment, employers are able to ascertain whether or not the portable equipment (including cables and plugs) was safe and without risk on the day of the test, to persons coming into direct or indirect contact with any live part of the equipment (as far as could reasonably be ascertained).
